Welcome to the Angry Piper's Book Reviews. I am The Angry Piper, and on these pages I will review books. I will discuss books that are of importance to me and why; books that have changed my life, books that have made me think, and books that have entertained me. In other words, books I have read, and books I like.
What, you may ask, makes me qualified to review books? I read a lot. Beyond that, not much.
I will not be limiting my reviews to one specific genre, although there are some genres I definitely won’t be including. Books you can expect to see reviewed are in the genres of Literary Fiction (classic and contemporary), Science Fiction, Fantasy, Horror, Drama, Mystery, and some Nonfiction (mainly History). I will not be reviewing new, trendy books, hot books, or current bestsellers, unless I happen to have read them (doubtful) and enjoyed them (ditto). I am not the New York Times Book Review or Publisher’s Weekly. I’m just one guy who loves to read and does so often. I will also put my two cents in on certain authors; people whose writing I enjoy or find captivating.
I will not bash bad books. Usually. Aside from a few snarky comments now and then, like how I hate Anne Rice’s writing or how I think The Catcher in the Rye is overrated. There’s plenty of bad writing out there. If I read crap, I tend to try to forget it and not read it again. I also won’t be reviewing Romance novels or books Oprah says I should read.
Whenever possible, I will attempt to meet the weekly schedule, usually on Fridays. Update notices will be posted on my RSS Feed, so rush on over and subscribe.
After reading some of these reviews, you may feel strongly enough to chime in with your own two cents. I welcome such endeavors, as long as you've read the book in question. Think my review of a book was right on the money? Think I wouldn't know great literature if it bit me on the ass? Think I missed a key point? Have any good book recommendations? Can you express yourself intelligently?
Then, by all means:
